The unknown stereo photographs from the “forgotten “ archives of the Russian photographers of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
This project presents for the first time the new- unknown and “forgotten “- stereo photographs from the archives of the Russian photographers of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. A few thousand photographs have been digitized and some more thousands are to be digitized in the future.

With the help of modern 3D technologies we will make them accessible to all. Why are these photographs “ forgotten “ or little known?
They are different from all other photographs because they are made in the technology of stereo pairs which create 3D effect when they are viewed through the stereoscope. A stereoscope is an optical device invented in the middle od the 19th century which is specially designed for veiwing double images printed on glass plates and making the effect of binocular eyesight. Due to the historical reasons these technologies which were popular before 1917 were lost and, alongside with them , because of the same historical reasons, the wonderful pictures made by the Russian photographers were irretrievably lost or forgotten .
